Deer Repellent Sprinkler (also for cats, dogs, rabbits, raccoons & herons)
I’ve been using the Contech Electronics CRO101 Scarecrow Motion-Activated Sprinkler as a deer repellent sprinkler for over a year. The darn thing works where nothing else did, to keep the deer away from my yard and shrubs.
This deer-repellent sprinkler is a motion detector sprinkler. It has one of those infrared motion detectors that looks like a scarecrow, and a powerful, lawn sprinkler head. I’ve tried nets, smelly bobcat urine, hanging stuff in the trees — even running at the deer while yelling and waving my arms, but this thing works better than any of those ever did! 
When some unlucky deer (or herd) wanders into my garden thinking it’s found a nice meal, the deer sprinkler suddenly shoots a noisy, erratic stream of water arcing overhead toward them. I have watched it happen…when the motion detector activates the sprinkler the deer panic and run like heck. It is hilarious to watch! The best news is, they don’t come back for days!
The ScareCrow motion activated sprinkler has a built-in time delay (about 5 or 10 seconds) before it goes off again, which probably makes it seem like an unpredictable horrible monster thing to the deer. Horrible for the deer, sweet for me!
The deer remember this repellant Scarecrow so well, I can set it in one part of the yard or garden for a day, then move it to another area, then another, and another, then back to the first.
No electric hookup is needed because it uses a standard 9V rectangular battery which I’ve only had to change once in over a year. You do need a garden hose and a hydrant to hook it up to.
The motion detector sprinkler also works to repel other kinds of garden, yard and pond pests: raccoons, rabbits, cats, dogs and herons are all afraid of it.
I’ve heard that it can even repel wandering bears, but we don’t have any of those around here.
Moose and elk? I would not have a clue.
The Scarecrow only runs for about 4 seconds at a time, using roughly a pint of water, so it doesn’t waste water and should not be considered as “irrigation” by the local water-conservation officials.
You can forget those clumsy nets, smelly chemicals, bobcat urine and all that other crap…this works 10x better! And, it’s so much fun to see those animals hightail it when the Scarecrow deer sprinkler activates!!
